This little Arizona company surprised me! A mom from the FIT Network turned me on to this company. Their weighted products use tiny glass beads to add weight, instead of pellets that are made with petroleum products and other chemicals. They are good quality, washable blankets. Check them out, they have other weighted products and sensory/developmental items!
Autism is not something the mainstream medical community is willing or able to address, and the mainstream medical community goes to great lengths to try to convince people that autism is a psychiatric disorder. If you want to treat the root causes of autism, you will most likely need to start with an enlightened naturopath, like Dr. Anita Bratt http://drbratt.com/
Dr. Bratt’s website has a wealth of information and is a great place to self direct your learning about the medical crisis that is autism, as well as it’s REAL treatment. With her office in Kelowna, only the MOST dedicated and selfless parents in the lower mainland can access her services and see the miracles that happen when the biomedical aspects of autism are treated. Dr. Bratt does much of her consultations via Skype, phone and e-mail. I wish I could recommend a naturopath in the lower mainland who could do the work Dr. Bratt does, but such a person does not exist. Dr. Bratt’s work is her passion, and she is one of the best educated practitioners in Canada, when it comes to Autism and Children. We are so lucky to have her in B.C., especially with the criminal coverup embraced by SunnyHill and British Columbia Childrens Hospital.

Wiggly kids do not have to be ‘bad kids’ anymore, with these state of the art, high quality seating options. I’ll post more products from this cool company soon, and will have limited samples for people to try at my workshops or in my practice.
This company has expanded from hand made weighted products to a larger variety of sensory items, and the website has resources as well!
I’ve added this link for twist’n write pencils because so many people at the CrossCurrents 2012 Conference were so interested in trying them. What a friendly and dynamic group of teachers! The writing pen store will ship to Canada, but you can find the pencils cheaper (from other companies) if you have them shipped to a US address. This is the only company I’ve seen to sell refills for the pencils, but many family run office supply stores can sell you 2 mm diameter replacement leads.
Another place to purchase twist pencils is Teacher’s Tool Chest. The Teacher’s Tool Chest also sells the Maped Koopy Scissors that are so great for teaching cutting to young ones. It is important for children to learn to manage scissors in one hand and not have the non-dominant hand be helping with scissors or passive at the side. Cutting develops bilateral integration and using both hands differently is very important. Start with snipping straws and strips of cardstock or laminate, then move to more continuous cutting (start straight and move to curved shapes). These scissors are great, and you can rotate the spring out of the way mid-way through your session so the hand extension becomes stronger.
This group has an amazing mandate and many ideas and options for young people with Aspergers and Learning Disabilities.

These “Social Thinking” Curricula are great for supporting positive behaviour and learning to manage oneself in challenging environments where “off task” models are at least as prevalent as “on task” and desired models. Even young children can learn the difference between a “group plan” and an “individual plan” and how to “listen with their body”
